Mediathread's History
Originally developed by Columbia University’s Center for Teaching and Learning and launched in 2010, Mediathread has been used in over 1000 courses at Columbia in a wide range of subject domains, including Art History, Film Studies, Music, Social Work, Education, Journalism, Music, and Religious Studies. Mediathread is built with open-source code, and is also used by many different universities and research groups across the world.
Mediathread development has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Institute of Library and Museum Science (IMLS), and the Mellon Foundation. Institutions partnering with Columbia on its development and application include WGBH, ARTstor, New York Public Library, and Dartmouth College.
